The Louis D. Brown PEACE INSTITUTE is a unique organization in the City of Boston and in the nation. Founded to assist and support the families of homicide victims, the PEACE INSTITUTE rapidly grew into a model agency offering shelter and services to families in the most difficult times of their lives and a model for nonviolence to the city that Louis D. Brown called home.

logoThe PEACE INSTITUTE has developed a fully integrated curriculum for all elementary, middle and high school students that prepares them to deal with trauma and grief, build nonviolence and conflict resolution skills, and commit themselves to peace work in their families and their communities. These skills are also taught in workshops for community based groups throughout the Commonwealth.

The PEACE INSTITUTE is committed to restorative justice and building sustainable peace in our home communities. To do this, the PEACE INSTITUTE works hand in hand with young men who have been defined as “the problem” to build peace block by block in the communities of Dorchester. Following the lead of these young men, the mothers who have lost their sons to murder, and the mothers who have lost their sons to prison have reached out their hands to each other forming Massachusetts Mothers on the Move. M’MOM has peace as its goal.
